Amazingly Fun Google Drive Clean Out

Kia ora bloggers, in Te Ngahere we have been cleaning our google drive. Before we had to clean out our own google drives we had to watch a video that our Kaiako so we know how our google drive should look like we also had a presentation we had to do before we did our google drives because the teachers had to see how we would make ours look. We would always have random things in there not even sorted into there correct folders. I learned that you are allowed to have a personal folder and also a old stuff folder. I pretty much just put everything into the old stuff folder because I still wanted to have those things on my chromebook. I thought this was an amazing idea because if we had to do this in the middle of the year we would have way too much docs to file. I really enjoyed doing this because maybe not just me but others could find old stuff from 2 years ago and  I find that is really amazing because you could keep them on a USB stick so when we are older we can look back at our work we used to do during primary. But I found it difficult to find the folders but I got there in the end. Have you had a google drive clean out with your class?

Hikoi In The Ngahere

Kia ora bloggers, Today I am posting  about our hikoi we went on Thursday-18/3/21. We went on this Hikoi to because we were researching about things in the Ngahere. We went on this hikoiI really enjoyed having a hikoi in the Ngahere because we got to see a lot of things in the native bush. I learned that (ferns) can live up to 20 years, I also learned that there are all types of ferns like silver fern, red fern, hen chicken fern, black tree fern and king fern’s.  That is how many types of ferns we could of saw today but I only saw the Black tree fern, Red fern and I also saw king fern, so in other words different types of ferns. Just so you know (hikoi) means (walk).

Have you been on a hikoi with your class before?

Insanely Fun Team Building-Task Master.

Kia ora bloggers, in Te Ngahere we have recently been doing a thing that the Kaiako call team building. To be honest my group and I didnt really work well during the first attempt because I was the drawer and I was getting frustrated because all the it was really noisy. Also during the first attempt I found it challenging because this was the first time we did this team building and I didnt know what to do. During the second attempt I thought we worked really well because we knew what to expect to come and the only thing we found challenging and hard was that it was still noisy but we were able to hear each other but it was hard to concentrate. My group and I think that our picture looked really similar to Whaea Becks but we didnt finish our picture but they could be compared I think. Our Kaiako re named this team building because they got this idea from a t.v show called task masters. We only changed the name and also none of the students are comedians like the comedians off t.v. we were learning to communicate and collaborate properly with our learning groups. Any way we were doing a really challenging task. We had to use the three people in our learning groups. Including all three people there had to be 1 drawer which was Alana also Indie and I were the 2 runners. The runners are the people that have to run outside to look at the picture that one of our Kaiako drew. Who ever drew their picture that looks the most accurate to Whaea Becks picture won but our Kaiako have not decided who won. If you don't know what accurately means it means that it doesn't have to be exactly the same but it has to be around the same so keep that in mind. Have you experienced this before?

Measurement DLO

Kia ora bloggers, in Te Ngahere we have recently been learning how to use a measuring tape to measure accurately. We had to create a DLO about measurement so it could teach other people about measurement and also how to measure accurately. Accurately means that it has to be measured correctly and exactly that number. I learnt to place the measuring tape properly on a flat surface, also to start from 0 all of the time. We all had to make sure we were measuring straight. We used a 8m measuring tape and we also used a measuring tape that people use for dressing because it helped us work easier just like using it to measure how far two pens are apart. Have you learned how to use a measuring tape properly?

Our Pepeha And Mihi

Kia ora bloggers, In Te Ngahere we have recently been learning our pepeha off by heart. We are learning our pepeha and our mihi so that old students are able to welcome new students into this amazing Kura. I really enjoyed learning my pepeha including my koro and kuia because when I use to do my pepeha I didn't include my koro and kuia but this was fun to do but really tricky. The boys in my class have to learn this to be able to stand in our beautiful whare and speak in te reo maori. I found it hard to say my pepeha because I had to take a lot of breaths and I kept on messing up so I had to restarting. I am glad that I am able to welcome new students into Paihia school. Have you learned a mihi before to welcome new students into your Kura?

What I Know About Food Chains

Kia ora bloggers, In Te Ngahere we have recently been learning about food chains. Food chains is when energy is transferred from a living thing to another living thing. A series of organisms each depend on the next source of food. I found this really hard because it took me a while to find out where the arrows actually have to point. We had to use arrows to show what eats what. I found out that Tui eats berries off Kowhai trees. I also learned that stoats eat possums and rats. I think if I listened better next time I could finish my food web the first time because the first time I had the arrows pointing the wrong way but I finished it eventually. Three things that are different to my teachers food web. My arrows on my food web are different because my arrows are just plain black not colour coded and also my arrows are just straight. My pictures on my food web are set out more clearer then this one. I think my arrows are more easier to understand because having different colours are confusinging. But I understand why they need to be different colour, they have to be different colours because the red arrows are pointing from what the predators eat, the blue arrows are pointing from what the tui eats, the orange arrows are pointing from the food that the Kereru eats, the green arrows are pointing from the birds to the possum because the possum eats the birds and the purple arrows are pointing from all the birds and what the birds eat to the rat because the rat eats the birds and the rat also eats what the birds eat which is called berries. Have you ever learned about Food Webs?

The Scariest Tsunami Evacuation.

On Friday there was a Tsunami Evacuation siren going off so we had to gather the children who were at home to get  in the car to go up to the golf course because it is the highest hill in Waitangi. As we were on our way up there I had no idea what was happening because my parents wouldn't tell me but when we got there I knew straight away it was a tsunami evacuation because when I was 8 years old this happened early in the morning till night time and this really scared me. My mum went to go pick up my cousins Tiana, Jade.O, Azure and Karceya from Paihia School on the hill behind the school. When they returned, my cousins and I were putting on fake nails, colouring in, having a drawing competition, putting on makeup and also rolling down the hill holding hands. We were eating a lot of biscuits and my parents went home to get about 17 bottles of water. I found this evacuation really scary and I was worried for my cousin Mahia because he was with the school and not with his parents and siblings.Have you been in a situation like this before?

The Essential Guide to Understanding Ecosystem.

Kia ora bloggers, in Te Ngahere we have recently been learning about ecosystems. We have been learning how the ecosystem works and how things depend on others to survive. My learning group and I learned 2 things about the ecosystem, the plant/producer will throw away what it does not need that will decompose and we also learned that an ecosystem is made up of animals, plants and bacteria as well as the physical and chemical environment they live in. I really enjoyed learning about this topic because I learned a lot of new things about it. What have you learned about the ecosystems before?
